So I really have not updated this blog since February, 2013? It's been <em><strong>two whole years</strong></em> of inactivity??</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Well, the blog's been mostly quiet but I have definitely been active. In the last couple years I've been coloring comics like Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Universe, and Mega Man; graphic novels like New Crusaders: Legacy of the Crusaders; events like Sonic and Mega Man: Worlds Collide; and brand new books like Sonic Boom!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"><a href="https://twitter.com/mattherms" target="_blank">Social-media wise I am most active on Twitter these days</a>. Though I still post (albeit infrequently) to my <a href="http://herms85.deviantart.com/" target="_blank">DeviantART</a>. And I technically also have a <a href="http://mattherms.tumblr.com/" target="_blank">Tumblr</a>, despite still not quite understanding what that even is. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana;">Anyhow, I AM going to try and make a more concentrated effort to keep these things updated. I'd even love to write some more thoughtful posts about some topics, as time allows. So here's to <strike>2013</strike> <strike>2014</strike> 2015! </span>Matt Hermshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06929903823927366035noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8798765443382056120.post-24934689962991313862013-02-26T13:35:00.000-08:002013-02-26T13:35:26.740-08:00Now Coloring Sonic Universe!Wow, so this post is quite a bit after the fact! As of, well, a few months ago I am now the monthly colorist for <em>Sonic Universe</em>, published by Archie Comics, in addition to <em>Sonic the Hedgehog</em> and <em>Mega Man</em>. <br />
<br />
I've been very excited to join this book - I haven't worked with the team of Tracy Yardley and Jim Amash since <em>Sonic the Hedgehog</em> #199 - my very first book as monthly colorist four years ago! I've had quite a tough act to follow - Steve Downer has been doing some awesome colors in SU for the last couple years, and will now be bringing that skill to <em>The New Crusaders</em>.<br />
<br />
Be sure to pick up my first arc - The Chaotix Quest, published in <em>Sonic Universe</em> #46-49. Final issues should be arriving in stores soon! <br />

Here's a buncha' Sonic the Hedgehog covers I've colored for Archie Comics in the last few months. Hope ya' enjoy! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GSHQ6LNkDKI/USwRPoseJPI/AAAAAAAAAyw/ZegahQFFCVk/s1600/Cover.Sonic246.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a><br /></div>
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GSHQ6LNkDKI/USwRPoseJPI/AAAAAAAAAyw/ZegahQFFCVk/s1600/Cover.Sonic246.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="145" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GSHQ6LNkDKI/USwRPoseJPI/AAAAAAAAAyw/ZegahQFFCVk/s200/Cover.Sonic246.jpg" width="200" /><br />
</a>The cover to <em>Sonic the Hedgehog</em> #246, drawn and inked by<a href="http://yardley.deviantart.com/"> Tracy Yardley</a>. It's a Knux versus Thrash smackdown and it's gonna' be epic. Ya' know, when you get a cover as ink heavy as this one - as a colorist you think "Man, the heavy lifting is done for me! This is gonna' be a breeze!" Actually, these are some of the harder images to color, I find. These are cartoony characters, after all - so you gotta' figure out how to make that deep, dark contrast work!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g9t9Z9GHAgA/USwR_sUQRmI/AAAAAAAAAy4/ztp56ttmSaM/s1600/Cover.Sonic247.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-g9t9Z9GHAgA/USwR_sUQRmI/AAAAAAAAAy4/ztp56ttmSaM/s200/Cover.Sonic247.jpg" width="131" /></a>The first cover by our newest penciler on the crew, <a href="http://trunks24.deviantart.com/">Lamar Wells</a>. Friggin' love this guy's style. No before/after on this one - all of the elements in this piece were seperate pieces that were rendered and shuffled around. Final placement on the cover is different from this, in fact. Sonic and Mecha Sally are my favorite parts! Cover to <em>Sonic the Hedgehog</em> #247. Inks by Terry Austin.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SBqSOgzfNcQ/USwSkthgHeI/AAAAAAAAAzA/_wNHl0zVjeY/s1600/Cover.Sonic248.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SBqSOgzfNcQ/USwSkthgHeI/AAAAAAAAAzA/_wNHl0zVjeY/s200/Cover.Sonic248.jpg" width="200" /></a>It's the Sonic/Mega Man crossover we've all been waiting for! Was so pumped when this Patrick "Spaz" Spaziante piece showed up in my queue. Cover to <em>Sonic the Hedgehog</em> #248.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rvMmalzxsSw/USwS8FnAt0I/AAAAAAAAAzI/IAQWN-6-rf4/s1600/Cover.SonicU50.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="151" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rvMmalzxsSw/USwS8FnAt0I/AAAAAAAAAzI/IAQWN-6-rf4/s200/Cover.SonicU50.jpg" width="200" /></a>Cover to <em>Sonic Universe</em> #50's landmark issue. This was a pretty fast turnaround for Spaz (pencils/inks) and myself. Much of the great metallic texture on this guy was already there in the inks, so I didn't have to do much. Love that we went with a reference to a scene in the Sonic OVA for the background's color scheme, too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-APk5GfZ7v6s/USwTtZkG1dI/AAAAAAAAAzU/rANUv5HyIFY/s1600/Cover.Sonic_DoubleDigest03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-APk5GfZ7v6s/USwTtZkG1dI/AAAAAAAAAzU/rANUv5HyIFY/s200/Cover.Sonic_DoubleDigest03.jpg" width="200" /></a>The cover to <em>Sonic Super Digest</em> #3. Another piece by Lamar, with inks by Kent Archer. Anybody notice that this series uses the original models for these characters (or something close to it)? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iqKA7db6AEw/USwUFOMKp5I/AAAAAAAAAzc/qrz_l--lfuE/s1600/Cover.Sonic_Super_Special07.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iqKA7db6AEw/USwUFOMKp5I/AAAAAAAAAzc/qrz_l--lfuE/s200/Cover.Sonic_Super_Special07.jpg" width="200" /></a>Last one! Cover to <em>Sonic Super Special Magazine</em> #7, drawn by Lamar with inks by <a href="http://sky-boy.deviantart.com/">Gary Martin</a>, celebrating 20 years of Archie Sonic comics! Man, how the time flies! Sonic is on a layer above the background characters. Not sure if the BG art will be used in the 'zine interior art. Hope it is - there's alot of cool details you just can't quite make out in the full cover!</div>

Happy new year, guys! It's been awhile, huh? The last quarter of 2012 went by in a real blur, so it looks like I've got some catching up to do! How about some cover colors for the Blue Bomber? <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tzTlQZHOtbg/UQOQQaGa9fI/AAAAAAAAAvw/6MhVUjZCrlo/s1600/Cover.MM21.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tzTlQZHOtbg/UQOQQaGa9fI/AAAAAAAAAvw/6MhVUjZCrlo/s320/Cover.MM21.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Cover to <em>Mega Man</em> #21, drawn by <a href="http://chad-thomas.com/">Chad Thomas</a> and inked by <a href="http://sky-boy.deviantart.com/">Gary Martin</a>. So much fun! Mega Man's pose is actually based on the Japanese box art to the Playstation port of Mega Man 2, by the way, and we tried to do a loose recreation of that rendering style, too. MM's face underwent a little bit of re-draw in the final cover - which you can check at your local comic book store now!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gizOwlxBsqA/UQOQZtrukKI/AAAAAAAAAv4/CGta1ZXnHpU/s1600/Cover.MM22.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gizOwlxBsqA/UQOQZtrukKI/AAAAAAAAAv4/CGta1ZXnHpU/s320/Cover.MM22.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Cover to <em>Mega Man</em> #22, drawn by <a href="http://snakediver.deviantart.com/">Jamal Peppers</a> with inks by Gary. I think this art is currently being used for in-book ads for the series, too. Colored this one before #21's cover, I believe. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rod6RpMNaMA/UQOQkWUu97I/AAAAAAAAAwA/3YA2B3wxq_0/s1600/Cover.MM23.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rod6RpMNaMA/UQOQkWUu97I/AAAAAAAAAwA/3YA2B3wxq_0/s320/Cover.MM23.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Favorite cover <strong>ever</strong> on <em>Mega Man</em>. Cover to <em>Mega Man</em> #23. Holy crap, this one is awesome. Drawn by Jamal with inks by Rick Bryant, I was so excited to get this one in my queue. Very proud of how this one came together, and I also got to do some edits to the logo (not pictured) to match the shatter effect in the glass!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jwjJpQXNIuw/UQOQut7UzxI/AAAAAAAAAwI/oYlZF6H0LBY/s1600/Cover.MM25Variant.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jwjJpQXNIuw/UQOQut7UzxI/AAAAAAAAAwI/oYlZF6H0LBY/s320/Cover.MM25Variant.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The "Evil Friends Forever" variant cover for <em>Mega Man</em> #25, drawn by Jamal and inked by Jim Amash. I just about did a spit-take when this one popped up in my inbox, I laughed so hard. I just handed in colors on the second part of the Sonic/Mega Man crossover, in fact. This crossover is gonna' be so much fun! Be sure to pick it up - starting in <em>Mega Man</em> #24 in the Spring!</div>

Just wanted to share a preview of Sonic <em><strong>Super Special Magazine</strong></em> #4, from Archie Comics. On sale now! This book features the first part of my contribution to the "Sonic Timeline," a graphic re-telling of world events in the Sonic universe. My portion covers events immediately before the start of the books and then... Well, close to the first 75 issues or so! <br />

These pages were actually my very last penciling assignment before I went full-time colorist, drawn wa-a-a-ay back in late 2009/early 2010. It's kinda' surreal to see them finally published after all these years! I'll definitely try and uncover the original Jpegs of the pencils themselves from my e-Mails sometime. </div>

So I believe they are still putting together the official <a href="http://www.usawinsgold.com/#/Prizes">announcements on this thing,</a> but this cover has been out there since last month's solicits so I thought I would go ahead and share the raw artwork for it! Pencils and inks by Tracy Yardley! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Vn6MjGd1sRI/UC-THFYq-sI/AAAAAAAAAqs/NaTNMTmcOWM/s1600/Cover.Sonic242.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Vn6MjGd1sRI/UC-THFYq-sI/AAAAAAAAAqs/NaTNMTmcOWM/s320/Cover.Sonic242.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
If <a href="http://bumbleking.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5996">you've checked out the solicit</a>, you might notice a few changes happened in post - the cover was flipped horizontal, Sonic's smirk changed and Amy even has an all new wardrobe! But here's the original artwork. Super fun cover to work on - lots of bright, saturated colors! I haven't updated in over a month! It's been crazy busy the last four weeks - after getting back from our vacation to Northern Virginia I jumped right into deadline crunches back-to-back. I'm gonna' play a bit of catch-up, here. So here's a cover for an upcoming issue of <em>Mega Man</em> from Archie Comics, drawn by <a href="http://chad-thomas.com/">Chad Thomas</a> and inked by <a href="http://sky-boy.deviantart.com/">Gary Martin</a>! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I believe Chad's got a great breakdown of his penciling process on this one <a href="http://chad-thomas.com/">available on his blog</a>, too - so be sure to check it out! </div>

And one of the hardest things is keeping it to yourself for all that time! Comics, man. What an awesome job! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DSm-jbPwIg8/T_w9O1qMFHI/AAAAAAAAAlo/cdgJF4yfiqw/s1600/worldscollide2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img $ca="true" border="0" height="151" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-DSm-jbPwIg8/T_w9O1qMFHI/AAAAAAAAAlo/cdgJF4yfiqw/s320/worldscollide2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Just a couple days before SDCC 2012 hits and news broke about 2013's epic Sonic the Hedgehog / Mega Man crossover event via <a href="http://www.usatoday.com/life/comics/story/2012-07-10/Sonic-the-Hedgehog-Mega-Man-crossover/56118040/1">USA Today</a> and <a href="http://kotaku.com/5924711/sonic-and-mega-man-team-up-for-the-first-time-ever-in-an-archie-comics-crossover">Kotaku</a>. I think everyone has been anticipating this since it was announced almost two years ago that Mega Man was gonna' be joining the Archie Adventure books. So psyched to see this coming down the pipeline!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This has been an incredibly rewarding book to work on... I'm finally coloring superheroes! <br />

The books officially go to print in August - featuring a variant cover I got to color! But Archie Comics is putting together a special print-preview for SDCC with another cover I colored! So I thought it would be rad to share some of the raw artwork for those...<br />

The gents at SoMoGa were kind enough to fly me out to LA for this year's E3 for a day and it was an awesome, surreal and exciting experience! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CWcLL24zKik/T9pjeOWNwmI/AAAAAAAAAfo/2ty3IrbNOCQ/s1600/IMG_0498.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CWcLL24zKik/T9pjeOWNwmI/AAAAAAAAAfo/2ty3IrbNOCQ/s200/IMG_0498.JPG" width="150" /></a></div>
Headed into E3's last day, I figured there were still gonna' be crazy lines - almost all the biggest announcements had already happened and at this point most everything was playable. But actually E3 seemed to - most of the time - keep things moving like clockwork. It was pretty rad! By the end of the day, I'd actually managed to get my hands on every game that I was really interested in. So if you're interested, I thought I might share thoughts on a few:<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's-a-new Mario! With Nintendo's Wii U being the only new hardware on display this year, we made dropping by their Nintendo Land funhouse one of our biggest stops. The Wii U tablet controller is pretty rad, by the way - pretty lightweight, nifty features. None of which seemed particularly necessary to the <strong>New Super Mario Bros. U</strong> demo we played. Nintendo invented the sidescrolling platformer and each game in the New Super Mario Bros. franchise just innovates and perfects the formula. And it's great to see Mario and co finally in higher-res graphics. (But really, we've got two Toads again for players 3 and 4?)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Speaking of side-scrollers, if you managed to track down one of the lovely ladies carrying around Nintendo's 3DS "demo stations" on Thursday afternoon you got to try <strong>New Super Mario Bros. 2</strong>. Or "Super Mario Bling Bling," as I've heard it called. The goal of the platformer is grabbin' them golden coins - which, I dunno, I would've thought thematically would've worked better for a Super <em>Wario</em> Bros. game or something. However, the racoon leaf power-up from Super Mario Bros. 3 is back in this game and it is <em><strong>awesome</strong></em>! Just as before, work up enough of a run and you can take flight, introducing some vertical design and secrets back into the SMB world. So exciting. Also, maybe it's just me, but the emphasis on gold-rush seems to add some extra difficulty to these levels. This may just be the Mario Bros. for you if you want classic platforming gameplay with that old NES-era challenge. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NLdHYCi_u7Q/T9zqpByMmXI/AAAAAAAAAhE/jnbydL_YKSg/s1600/nintendo_land_logo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="140" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NLdHYCi_u7Q/T9zqpByMmXI/AAAAAAAAAhE/jnbydL_YKSg/s200/nintendo_land_logo.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In what's clearly meant to be the Wii U's technical demo pack-in, <strong>Nintendo Land</strong> is a collection of mini-games themed after popular Nintendo franchises that demonstrate some of the features of the Wii U tablet and the "assymetrical gameplay" concept. We demoed the Zelda-themed <strong>Battle Quest</strong> - quite fun and visually a little like something out of Little Big Planet, but I didn't see anyone take down the final boss. <strong>Donkey Kong's Crash Course</strong> is a physics game that could've been downloaded off the Apple app store, but the music and graphics and extra inputs for certain obstacles make it a great time. <strong>Luigi's Ghost Mansion</strong> was alright, if a little frustrating if you didn't pay 100% attention when they pointed out which player you were. (Whoops. My bad.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1rK_U7t8WlM/T9ztcHATzHI/AAAAAAAAAhQ/0gpOBzzn1ic/s1600/scribblenauts-unlimited-announced-for-wii-u.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="110" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1rK_U7t8WlM/T9ztcHATzHI/AAAAAAAAAhQ/0gpOBzzn1ic/s200/scribblenauts-unlimited-announced-for-wii-u.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<strong>Scribblenauts Unlimited</strong> is<em> adorable</em>. This seems like a game that you can just get lost in for hours on end for as long as your imagination lasts, and I would want my kids to play this if I had kids. Having never played previous Scribblenauts, I'm not totally sure where the <em>game</em> is in this game but bringing the stuff that pops into your head onto screen is tremendously rewarding and exciting to see how it all interacts. (And we've all heard you can summon Cthulu and the Krakken, but brace yourself for cute overload when you put in the words "Nyan Cat.")</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-id04pKjdYA8/T9zvRZaBpII/AAAAAAAAAhY/txidglFjBEM/s1600/IMG_0511.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-id04pKjdYA8/T9zvRZaBpII/AAAAAAAAAhY/txidglFjBEM/s200/IMG_0511.JPG" width="150" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Rolling over to the Sony booth to check out some of their upcoming exclusives, I immediately gravitated to <strong>Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch</strong>. I love me some RPGs and Studio Ghibli films, so what could be more kick-ass than combining the two?? This is a <em>beautiful</em> game. The character models do their best to impersonate cel-shaded anime characters and the background artwork looks like a beatiful painting come to 3D life. I played the more explorative town demo which capped off with a boss fight. The battle system... Well, I'm not sure what the hell I was doing. I miss RPGs where my characters stand on one side and the enemy on the other and we duke it out in turns. Everyone running everywhere and I just get lost! I <em>desperately</em> wanted this to be a must-have purchase, but now I think I may need to rent it first and see if some tutorials can better prepare me for battle. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In a sea of grey-brown first-person shooters rated T to M, I really wanted to love a game featuring smart-ass talking animals. But <strong>Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time</strong> is friggin' hard. The game is graphicly superb but I had to have the guy manning the demo talk me through every action. Perhaps it's because I'd never played any of the previous Sly Cooper games, or that I've generally avoided stealth games. (Sorry, Metal Gear.) Still on my list of games I'll check out, and I hope that starting from the beginning will give me the learning curve I need. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q5lESjinTxg/T9zyvWq3IPI/AAAAAAAAAho/SV_MkYpqFoU/s1600/PASBR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="112" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Q5lESjinTxg/T9zyvWq3IPI/AAAAAAAAAho/SV_MkYpqFoU/s200/PASBR.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since it was first announced, <strong>Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale</strong> has been saddled with the nickname "Sony Super Smash Bros." ...Which, okay, actually rolls off the tongue better anyway. It's impossible to deny that All-Stars is inspired by the critical and commercial juggernaut of Nintendo's, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Quite contrary, in fact. It's solid and lots of fun! None of these characters I would call near-and-dear to my heart with the exception of Parappa the Rapper, maybe... And coming from wildly different games, the fighters and visuals just don't quite mesh as well together as the Smash Bros. universe. The biggest departure from Nintendo's formula is the removal of the platforming stuff. You're no longer trying to knock your opponent off the field but instead charge up super moves to kill them. I'm not sure that this franchise will take off like the one it's clearly inspired by, but this is one that I am very excited to add to my PS3 collection. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Gkl-mutcsec/T9z3BizmK6I/AAAAAAAAAh0/-oT4Vqg-FMI/s1600/kingdom-hearts-3d-dream-drop-distance-logo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="127" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Gkl-mutcsec/T9z3BizmK6I/AAAAAAAAAh0/-oT4Vqg-FMI/s200/kingdom-hearts-3d-dream-drop-distance-logo.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
...C'mon, guys. Let's just make Kingdom Hearts 3 already, huh? That said, I really need to buy a 3DS. Every game that's out now or coming out that I really want to play is for that handheld in particular. <a href="http://www.gametrailers.com/side-mission/2012/06/22/nintendos-special-nintendo-direct-announcement-of-nintendo-3dsxl/">And now it comes in a wicked XL format!</a> (Ah, Nintendo. Never buy any handheld on day one. Just like an iPad/iPhone/iAnything, a way cooler model is just a year or so down the road.) <strong>Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance</strong> looks great and I'm psyched for it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
......</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br />And, well, that pretty much wraps things up! Thanks again so much to the guys at SoMoGa for bringing me out there! E3 was definitely one of those things that I never really thought that I'd be fortunate enough to attend, and it was a wonderful experience! </div>

Yes! I finally managed to sneak in a few extra hours of coloring last week on this piece and get it done! It was super refreshing to work on my own thing start-to-finish again, and I'm very energized by the idea of getting a few more pieces like this done and ready to do maybe a convention or two later in the year. </div>

Will post up some raw artwork of these things when solicits/conventions happen.Matt Hermshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06929903823927366035noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8798765443382056120.post-13637274871299532932012-06-03T07:55:00.000-07:002012-06-03T07:55:55.293-07:00Life with Archie 22 CoverA couple months ago my editors at Archie Comics sent me a couple of covers with a rush turnaround time that were a little bit... Out of my wheelhouse? Actually, <a href="http://matt-herms.blogspot.com/2012/01/archie-babies-part-4.html">this wasn't the first time I'd gotten to work with the Archie brand</a>, but I do usually stick to most of our superhero/licensed stuff. So it was really great to be asked to fill in on these! <br />

It was also a chance to try out another colorist's style, too, as these needed to match Tito Pena's color style on previous covers as much as possible. Very fun! I hope I get to do some more of these in the future! (I've already knocked out another special one, actually - but I can't tell ya' anything about it yet. I am super excited for it though!) <br />
